The Saddleback College Gauchos Men's Tennis Team Web Site.
A tradition of excellence in California Community College Tennis since 1975. The Saddleback College Tennis Program was founded and coached by Bill Otta. He built a dynasty, winning 24 conference titles, 10 regional titles and nine different state titles. View the Team Championship . After Coach Otta retired in 2000, Coach Scott Hansen took over the team for the next 5 years (Assistant 1999, Head Coach 2000 - 2004). Coach Hansen extended the streak of conference championships to 12 straight years during his tenure. In that period, Saddleback did not lose a single Conference Team Match (46-0). For the 2007 season Alec Horton will take over the reigns to and maintain Saddleback's excellent heritage of winning programs.
Horton played on the 1989 team and returns to his alma mater for the second time. He was an assistant coach for the Saddleback women's team a few years ago (coached the Women's only state title holder). Additionally he has coached at University of Nevada, Cypress College,Whittier College and recently coached the Orange Coast College men's tennis team.
Coach Horton is an accomplished tennis teaching professional and has been teaching tennis for over 18 years. He is a USTA zonal coach, a certified professional, and a member of the USPTA, ITF, PTR, ITA, USTA, and a lifetime member of the California Community College Tennis Coaches Association. He has been coaching college tennis players since 1991.
Saddleback's overall record in Conference
Matches is 305 wins - 27 losses ( 91%). Saddleback's overall record in
30 Seasons is 469 - 100 ( 82% ). Saddleback College has enrolled tennis players
locally and from all over the world
to contend, every year, for the California State Team
Championship. The Gaucho Tennis Program has
helped almost all their players graduate with an Associate Arts Degree from
Saddleback College.
Some players transfer to prominent 4-year Universities and compete in Division I
NCAA Tennis. Along the way, many of their achievements have been recorded on our Hall
of Fame Board, located at the Tennis Courts.
